Pause
Sei que estou mega ausente, mais do que eu gostaria/deveria/desejaria. Descobri uma solucao (espero) para minha area de trabalho (que fica na sala de jantar) e estou envolvida com essa organizacao praticamente desde o comeco do mes passado.
Comprei moveis, instalei equipamentos, descobri que preciso de uma cadeira nova (mais alta), comecei a reorganizar... nesse embalo acabei reorganizando meu closet (ja que muitas das minhas coisas de scrap ficam la tambem): instalei prateleiras, mudei moveis de lugar, refiz arquivos, redistribui itens nas gavetas, e acho que vou embalar para o closet dos meus filhos...
Gosto disso, so que se pudesse so me dedicar a isso de forma intensiva, sem distracoes e ter alguma ajuda seria otimo... pq no meio disso tudo a vida nao para, meu corpo nao aguenta tanto (estou com as costas me matando) e mesmo coisinhas minimas quando agrupadas impactam meu dia a dia: a casa, cozinhar, lavar, limpar, dirigir, dar atencao a familia, ajudar filho com tarefa...

...voluntariar na escola, fazer brigadeiro de madrugada para festinha na escola, feriado, neve, chuva, agendar medicos, agendar revisao de carro, viagem do marido, preparar novas aulas online (em breve novidades ;) ) , renovar passaporte, ajudar nas mudacas no ScrapbookBrasil, encontros, cansaco, tentativa de descanso... um descanso que eh minimo, sao mais pausas para sentar e respirar do que outra coisa - e nessas pausas tento responder a emails, chamar a familia via Skype, passear pelo Facebook e Twitter, visitar precariamente o Pinterest, passar os olhos pelo Google Reader e... pensar no blog.
Espero voltar em breve! Obrigada por ainda acreditarem nesse espaco =)

I know I'm absent from the blog much more than I was intended to... but I found out a way to reorganize my work area (which is inside my dining/living room area), and I've been involved with this since February. I bought new furniture, installed equipments, learned that I need a new (higher) chair, started the reorganization... and then started reorganizing my closet (some of my paper and scrap stuff is stored there) : installed new shelves, worked on my file system, redid the drawers organization, and maybe my next attack will be on my kid's closet... Organization is a subject I really appreciate, specially in my house. But it would be much better if I could focus on it, with a little help from someone else... because life goes on, my body is not as strong as before (my back is just killing me) and even small tasks and distractions make a huge difference at the end of the day: take care of the house, cleaning, cooking, doing/sorting/folding laundry, driving, going to the market, help a son with his homework, volunteering at his school, cooking Brazilian treats for a party at school, a holiday, snow, rain, making doctor appointments, preparing new online classes, renewing my passport, helping with changes on ScrapbookBrasil, meeting friends, being tired, trying to get some rest... the rest is just a pause, in fact, to sit, trying to catch my breath... during these pauses I try to answer emails, call my family on Skype, take a look at Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and google Reader... and the blog. I hope I can return on my 'regular schedule" soon... with my new work area ready to be shown! Thank you for still believing! =)

Estou com visias em casa - uma amiga querida com a filha - e para nao deixar o blog parado por falta de tempo, seguem algumas fotos que tirei da neve que caiu aqui dia 7 de janeiro.

Geralmente onde estah todo este branco acima dos telhados eu vejo o outro lado do rio Hudson, que ja eh NY. Neste dia nao viamos nada!
Usually above the roofs we can see the other side of the Hudson River, Manhattan. We couldn't see a spot!
Infelizmente os flocos de neve estavam derretendo muito rapido... mas sao magicos assim mesmo.
Unfortunately the snowflakes were melting too fast... but they are magic anyway.

Como nao ventou muito, a neve ficou nas arvores... acho que nunca tinha visto tudo assim tao branco! Esta eh a rua de tras do meu predio.
We didn't have too much wind that day, so the snow stood atop of the trees... I've never seen everything so white like that! This is the street behind my building.

Gracas ao zoom da minha camera, consegui fotografar este esquilo que estava no alto de uma arvore. Ele e outro amigo estavam comendo a neve!

No final do meu predio ha esta area que eu acho linda... e com o por do sol, o ceu estava incrivel!
At the end of my building there's this beautiful area... at sunset, the sky was amazing!
Estas fotos foram feitas com uma Canon SX1IS e maos congeladas sem luvas. Parei porque nao aguentava mais, as maos estavam duras e ja sem sensibilidade... Preciso encontrar luvas adequadas para fotografar urgentemente!
These pictures were taken with a Canon Powershot SX1IS - an incredible Point&Shoot; - and bare hands. I stopped taking pictures because my hands were shaking, freezing cold and I wasn't feeling them anymore! I must find some special gloves that can allow me to take pictures under the weather.

Christmas Workshop!/ Oficina de Natal!!
Blog meio abandonado de novo, eu sei, eu sei... mas por bons motivos!!!
No comeco do mes de outubro tivemos que ir ao Brasil para a renovacao do nosso visto... foi uma viagem ate prevista, mas marcada de ultima hora por questoes burocraticas. Com isso muita correria, meu marido acabou indo antes para nao afetar seus dias de trabalho, e eu depois, para nao afetar muito as aulas dos meninos, ja que ha um limite de faltas permitidas no ano letivo.
Foram dias otimos, aproveitei bastante, curti minha familia... espero conseguir logo fazer um post sobre isso - fiz tambem um curso otimo de encadernacao com amigas queridas e fui a feira de scrap, onde conheci muita gente!
Outro motivo foi um convite que recebi que me deixou muito feliz, e que eh o motivo deste post:
Fabiana Mattos e Alice Fares, do Scrapclass - que levaram a Donna Downey para cursos no Brasil - me convidaram para fazer, junto com elas, 3 projetos para uma Oficina de Natal, inaugurando as aulas online do Scrapclass. Fiquei muito, muito feliz e surpresa com este convite, e mergulhei na producao dos projetos!!!
Quem ja deu aulas - sejam elas presenciais ou online - sabe o tempo que montar uma aula consome. No meu caso, assim que recebo o convite ja comeco a pensar nos projetos o tempo todo - hora do banho e hora de dormir incluidas. Qualquer pedaco de papel - ou vidro embacado - viram base para eu desenhar e fazer sketches.
Sempre me pergunto: "sera que este projeto eh interessante o suficiente"?
Enfim, criar um PAP leva um tempo entre criar, fazer os prototipos, alterar ideias, ate chegar ao resultado que me agrada!!
Os projetos estao otimos (modestia a parte), elegantes e lindos. Sou muito critica qdo desenvolvo algum projeto (pergunte para minhas amigas mais proximas...) e confesso que estou ansiosa para as aulas comecarem para saber a reacao das alunas!

I know, I know... the blog is abandoned... but I had two good reasons for that!
On October we had to flight to Brazil to renew our visa - we were expecting this trip, but had to wait for some official papers - but the consulate in Brazil only had schedule for December. We had to ask emergency appointment, and as soon they approved (we had to insist, because it was denied 2 times)my husband flew first - job reasons - and I had to wait a few days in order to not jeopardize my kids school - they have a limit for absent days. We enjoyed each and everyday there - soon I'll have a post about that. I even had a bookbinding class with dear friends and went to a scrapbooking trade show where I met lots of people!
The other reason to let the blog without updates was an invitation that made me really happy, and that's exactly what this post is about:
Two fantastic and famous scrapbook and bookbinding teachers in Brazil - Fabiana Mattos and Alice Fares, from Scrapclass ( they were responsible for Donna Downey's classes in Brazil ) invited me to host with them an online Christmas Workshop, the first session of Scrapclass online classes. It made so, so happy, so from that date on I am completely involved with the projects!
Put up a class together takes time. As soon as I receive the invitation I start thinking and planning, even during bath time or bed time... and any place was a place to sketch something.
During the creative process I always ask myself: "is this interesting enough"? And I change, make prototypes, try other ideas... is a long process and I don't rest while I'm not truly happy with the results. For this Christmas Workshop the all 9 projects are great (in my humble opinion :D ), elegants and useful. I'm counting the days to see the students reactions...
The classes are in Portuguese, but if anyone who is an English speaker has interest on them, we can work on translations ;)
Next days I'll post some Work in Progress - to get advantage of Fabiana's idea...

O evento que trabalhei/The event I worked on
Lembram do evento que eu trabalhei em abril? Algumas amigas pediram para ver fotos.
As fotos que eu tirei nao ficaram tao boas - eu levei uma camera simples, sem recursos manuais - e estao lavadas de flash ou escuras.O envolvimento no trabalho tambem nao me deixou lembrar de fazer um "making of" como se deve, fotografando cada passo da montagem. Sao poucas fotos as que valem a pena mostrar, mas enfim... ai vao elas!
Remember the event I worked on April? Some friends asked me to see the pictures.
Those I shot aren't good enough - with a very simple point&shoot;, most of them are washed by the flash or too dark. Getting involved on the job itself also kept me from planning a good 'making of"... only a few pictures are worth showing to you, but let's do it!
Dia 1:/Day 1 - Cirque du Soleil (OVO)
Tapis Rouge (area VIP com coquetel antes e sobremesa no intervalo do show):
Tapis Rouge (VIP lounge with drinks and hoeur d'oeuvres before the show and desserts during the show intermission)
Toda esta area eh bem descontraida - devemos lembrar que eh um circo, com toda a comida "tipica" (pipoca, sanduiche de "churrasco grego", balas), mas a apresentacao eh o maximo! Este rapaz (que veio depois mostrar a sua faca Tramontina - "minha melhor faca") cortava a carne para os sanduiches, e achei incrivel esta moldura dourada ao redor dele... uma ideia simples e maravilhosa ao mesmo tempo!
All this area, despite the "VIP" treatment, is very relaxed - since it's a circus tent. The food is not fancy at all - popcorn, candy, greek gyro... - but the presentation rocks! This is the "meat" guy - he was preparing the sandwiches - and I really loved the way they "put him on a frame" - a simple idea with a great result!
Dia 2/Day 2 - The Plaza
O espetacular Grand Ballroom do The Plaza sendo preparado para o almoco, enquanto a palestra com premio Nobel de Economia, Joseph Stiglitz, acontecia no Centennial Foyer.
The stunning Grand Ballroom at The Plaza in Manhattan being set up for the lucheon. The Nobel Prize speech (Mr. Joseph Stiglitz) was held in the Centennial Foyer.
Apos o evento, levamos alguns dos arranjos para o escritorio do cliente montado em uma suite do Park Lane Hotel. Eles foram colocados no parapeito da janela antes de serem distribuidos entre outras salas. Nao resisti e tirei esta foto, com a vista do Central Park (na foto, o Upper West Side)
After this event we took some of the flower arrangements to the customer's office, set up at one of suites at the Park Lane Hotel, and placed by the window. I couldn't resist to this image with the Central Park (showing the Upper West Side) 
As folhas das arvores estam com este tom de verde bem vivo, folhas recem-nascidas... lindo demais!
Since it was end of April, the color of the leaves were very bright, "newborn" leaves... so beautiful!
Dia 3/Day 3: New York Public Library.
Este foi o unico dia que ate consegui fazer algumas fotos da montagem - aqui, Celeste Bartos Forum (onde aconteceu o jantar), uma vez que o Astor Hall (area dedicada ao coquetel) so fica disponivel apos o fechamento da biblioteca ao publico.
This was the only day I could take more pictures ... here, the Celeste Bartos Forum, were dinner was served, since Astor Hall (for the cocktails and hoeurs d'oeuvres) is only available for set up after the Library closes to the public.

Um deles, uma famosa jornalista brasileira residente em NY, comentou a coragem da produtora (Claudia Borges) em fazer um evento deste porte em NY a partir do Brasil. "Nunca vi nada igual", disse ela. "Temos uma produtora local", foi a resposta que ela ouviu.

One of them, a famous Brazilian journalist living in the City has emphasized the producer's (Claudia Borges) "courage" on organizing such a huge event in NY all the way from Brazil. "I've never seen anything like this", she said. "We have a local producer" was the answer she heard.
Guess who went to bed happier that night? ;-)

O evento que trabalhei/The event I worked on
Lembram do evento que eu trabalhei em abril? Algumas amigas pediram para ver fotos.
As fotos que eu tirei nao ficaram tao boas - eu levei uma camera simples, sem recursos manuais - e estao lavadas de flash ou escuras.O envolvimento no trabalho tambem nao me deixou lembrar de fazer um "making of" como se deve, fotografando cada passo da montagem. Sao poucas fotos as que valem a pena mostrar, mas enfim... ai vao elas!
Remember the event I worked on April? Some friends asked me to see the pictures.
Those I shot aren't good enough - with a very simple point&shoot;, most of them are washed by the flash or too dark. Getting involved on the job itself also kept me from planning a good 'making of"... only a few pictures are worth showing to you, but let's do it!
Dia 1:/Day 1 - Cirque du Soleil (OVO)
Tapis Rouge (area VIP com coquetel antes e sobremesa no intervalo do show):
Tapis Rouge (VIP lounge with drinks and hoeur d'oeuvres before the show and desserts during the show intermission)Toda esta area eh bem descontraida - devemos lembrar que eh um circo, com toda a comida "tipica" (pipoca, sanduiche de "churrasco grego", balas), mas a apresentacao eh o maximo! Este rapaz (que veio depois mostrar a sua faca Tramontina - "minha melhor faca") cortava a carne para os sanduiches, e achei incrivel esta moldura dourada ao redor dele... uma ideia simples e maravilhosa ao mesmo tempo!
All this area, despite the "VIP" treatment, is very relaxed - since it's a circus tent. The food is not fancy at all - popcorn, candy, greek gyro... - but the presentation rocks! This is the "meat" guy - he was preparing the sandwiches - and I really loved the way they "put him on a frame" - a simple idea with a great result!
Dia 2/Day 2 - The Plaza
O espetacular Grand Ballroom do The Plaza sendo preparado para o almoco, enquanto a palestra com premio Nobel de Economia, Joseph Stiglitz, acontecia no Centennial Foyer.

The Nobel Prize speech (Mr. Joseph Stiglitz) was held in the Centennial Foyer.Apos o evento, levamos alguns dos arranjos para o escritorio do cliente montado em uma suite do Park Lane Hotel. Eles foram colocados no parapeito da janela antes de serem distribuidos entre outras salas. Nao resisti e tirei esta foto, com a vista do Central Park (na foto, o Upper West Side)
After this event we took some of the flower arrangements to the customer's office, set up at one of suites at the Park Lane Hotel, and placed by the window. I couldn't resist to this image with the Central Park (showing the Upper West Side)
As folhas das arvores estam com este tom de verde bem vivo, folhas recem-nascidas... lindo demais!
Since it was end of April, the color of the leaves were very bright, "newborn" leaves... so beautiful!
Dia 3/Day 3: New York Public Library.
Este foi o unico dia que ate consegui fazer algumas fotos da montagem - aqui, Celeste Bartos Forum (onde aconteceu o jantar), uma vez que o Astor Hall (area dedicada ao coquetel) so fica disponivel apos o fechamento da biblioteca ao publico.
This was the only day I could take more pictures ... here, the Celeste Bartos Forum, were dinner was served, since Astor Hall (for the cocktails and hoeurs d'oeuvres) is only available for set up after the Library closes to the public.

Inspired... o video!
OMG... I swear I started a post about Inspired (and other good things to share, like the national Stationery Show in NYC) but last week, by the end of Friday, a friend of a friend called me asking for help on some final arrangements for her wedding... so, here I am, working hard to get everything done by SUNDAY!
My dream now is having a good night sleep with no "to do" list...
Meanwhile, enjoy the Inspired 2010 video! I'm in the first scene, on the last one (on the left) and also by the sewing machine, making a soccer player... it was fun!

Juro que comecei a escrever um post sobre o Inspired (e outras coisinhas legais que andei fazendo, como a ida a National Stationery Show em NY), mas a semana passada, no final da sexta-feira, uma amiga de uma amiga me ligou pedindo help para alguns detalhes finais do seu casamento... entao, passei estes dias todos atras de tudo para finalizar este domingo...
Meu sonho eh ter uma noite de sono sem nada na cabeca para pensar...
Enquanto isso, aproveite o video do Inspired 2010... Estou na primeira cena, na fila, na ultima a esquerda, e em outros momentos costurando, modelando um jogador de futebol... foi otimo!

It's 11:23pm and I'm here, looking at an open suitcase, paints, brushes, papers and stamps. Tomorrow morning I'll be leaving for Inspired, in NC, together with my dear friend Sandra Lima.

Where am I? Cade eu?
Despite the abandoned look, this blog is still alive.
A brazilian event company needed somebody local to help them organize a huge event. And out of a sudden, my name came out. A good friend told them about me.
Here am I, getting crazy, working after hours, missing my family (the worst part) for what I never expected happenning to me: being an event planner in NY!
I have experience in event planning back then when I worked in marketing at Telecom companies- trade shows, internal events, conferences - that was my world. But then I was the customer and the planner. It was good. But everything was to "cold": cables, routers, technology at its best.
This time, there's a customer - and not a company - to be pleased: an upscale event, high profile guests, amazing locations and outstanding vendors.
Last minute requests, the best of the best... and I'm proud of myself that these lists have no fail at all. Of course I didn't do everything by myself: I assisted the event planner most of the time, and there's a team working. But something there is good, and it's done because I did. Yes, I can say proudly and with no fear to sound snobish. After so many years out of the market (8), I was afraid. Afraid of failing, afraid of dealing in English, in a city I don't know everything (in Sao Paulo I knew everything!). But I was surprised by myself: years out of the market, but years ahead on experience, just being me.
It's a personal acomplishment. I'm happy that I did. And I'm happy knowing the "backstage" of the city that never sleeps.
The event already started with guests coming from Brazil this week. Coordinating personalized shuttle service for 50+ people. Tapis Rouge at OVO, the new Cirque Du Soleil. Nobel prize winner presentation. Gala dinner. Amazing locations such as The Plaza and the New York Public Library, one of my favorite buildings in Manhattan.
I miss my family, my house is upside down. My 11y/o son told me today: "When will everything finish? I do prefer you at home". I do too, my sweetie. Lucas complained about not being able to play with me. I do miss our night time together, laughing at Everybody Hates Chris. SInce we don't have family around, is harder getting home late at night.
Sometimes is good to be missed. But the best is that I found myself. That part I thought was missed, and I know some people thought it too. The professional. An organized person. A person people rely on. The one who accomplishes.
That was amazing.
I hope I can keep this person by my side, to help myself realize some dreams. And they include not missing my family so much!

Apesar do aspecto abandonado, este blog esta ainda ativo! :)
Uma empresa brasileira de eventos estava precisando de alguem aqui em NY para ajuda-los a organizar um evento de grandes proporcoes. De repente, meu nome apareceu na historia, indicado por uma amiga (obrigada, Soninha!!!!)
Aqui estou eu, ficando maluca, trabalhando ate tarde, mal vendo minha familia (a pior parte!!) para algo que eu jamais imaginei que aconteceria: produzir um evento em NY!
Eu tenho experiencia com eventos da epoca que eu trabalhava na area de Marketing de empresas de telecom: feiras, seminarios, treinamentos... esse era meu mundo. Mas la eu era a produtora e a cliente ao mesmo tempo. Era bom. Mas tudo era muito "frio", por conta do perfil das empresas: cabos, roteadores, todo este mundo de alta tecnologia.
Desta vez, ha um cliente - e nao uma empresa - que deve ser atendido. Um evento de alto padrao, convidados VIP, locacoes fantasticas e os melhores fornecedores de NY.
Solicitacoes de ultima hora, o melhor do melhor sempre... e estou orgulhosa de mim mesmo, pois nada ficou devido. Logicamente nao fiz tudo sozinha: eu fiz assistencia a produtora na maioria do tempo e ha um time trabalhando. Mas com certeza ha algo la muito bom, e que foi feito, porque eu fiz. Me sinto a vontade de dizer isso com orgulho, sem o receio de parecer metida. Depois de tantos anos fora do mercado (8) eu confesso que senti medo. Medo de falhar, medo de ter que negociar 100% do tempo em Ingles, medo de nao conhecer nada (em Sao Paulo, eu conhecia TUDO!). Mas eu mesma me surpreendi. Anos fora do mercado, mas com anos de experiencia sendo "Carla".
Eh uma conquista pessoal, estou feliz que eu tenha conseguido. E adorei conhecer os bastidores da cidade que nunca dorme!
O evento ja comecou, com convidados chegando do Brasil esta semana. Coordenacao de traslado personalizado para mais de 50 pessoas. Tapis Rouge do espetaculo OVO do Cirque Du Soleil. Palestra com um premio Nobel. Um jantar de gala. Locacoes cinematograficas como o The Plaza e a Biblioteca Publica de NY, um dos meus predios favoritos na cidade.
Estou com saudades da minha familia, minha casa esta de ponta cabeca. O Biel me falou hoje "Quando este seu trabalho vai acabar? Eu prefiro quando voce esta em casa". Tambem prefiro, meu lindo. Lucas reclamou de nao poder jogar comigo. Sinto falta das nossas noites em frente a TV assistindo e rindo com Everybody Hates Chris. COmo nao temos ninguem da familia por perto, doi chegar tarde em casa e nao poder dar atencao pra eles.
As vezes eh bom quando sentem a nossa falta. E o melhor foi que eu me encontrei. Encontrei uma parte de mim que eu pensei estar perdida (sei que algumas pessoas tambem pensam ). A profissional. A pessoa organizada. A pessoa de confianca. A que cumpre suas tarefas.
Isso foi maravilhoso.
Espero poder manter esta pessoa ao meu lado, para me ajudar a realizar alguns dos meus sonhos. Que inclui nao ter que me afastar tanto da minha familia!
Atencao: dia 30 de abril estarei num programa americano via Internet *ao vivo*: Create Scrapbooks Live, as 13h do horario de Brasilia. Boa oportunidade para vcs rirem do meu sotaque e dos meus erros em ingles!
